  • Dental Care

Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet's teeth. We use modern and safe ultrasound to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. Dental technicians polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup. Fluoride treatments help strengthen enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity.  Dental x-ray equipment is also available to safely evaluate your pets dental health.

Advanced periodontal disease, however, often necessitates additional procedures for your pets optimum health.  Advanced dental procedures performed at Old Derby Animal Clinic include: dental x-ray to fully assess the health of your pets tooth roots, placement of gingival antibiotics to repair moderately advanced gum and periodontal disease, gingivectomy to remove excessive or cancerous gum tissue, biopsy of abnormal oral tissues, and lastly extraction of teeth affected by advanced periodontal or endodontal disease.

Management of pain during and after your pets advanced dental procedures is of critical importance to help your pet heal.  Analgesic medication is dispensed with your pet so that you can ensure a comfortable recovery.
